This Thanksgiving I’d like to say how thankful I am for my family. Dang, they’re far from perfect. And I’m far from perfect, and they know it. I’m far, far, far from perfect. They know me inside and out. They’ve been with me, well, literally my whole life.
I’m thankful for who my family is. I’m thankful for my parents’ strong love of God and relationship with Him. I’m thankful for how they’ve raised me. I’m thankful for who they’ve taught me to be, and how they’ve been there for me through hard stuff.
I’m thankful for my dad. We’ve had our share of ups and downs too. I’m thankful for when he vehemently stands up for me. I’m thankful when he gets angry when folk aren’t nice to me, or don’t treat me the way they ought. Dang, that makes me feel loved.
I’m thankful for my mom. She listens to me, loves me, supports me, doesn’t give advice when I ask her not to. She gives me hugs when I need them. She’s there for me when I get home from work. She listens to me when I need to defrag from my day. She helps me work through and talk through the rough stuff I’ve been through in my life.
I’m thankful for my brother. I love listening to him play guitar. I love who he is. He’s trendy, outgoing, compassionate, there for his friends, and a heck of a hard worker. He’s not a perfect brother, but he’s got a good heart, and that is so very rare in our day and age.
I’m also thankful for all my gal friends who have been there for me in the hard times, and have been that “midnight phone call” when I needed to talk. I’m thankful for all our good times forever. I’m thankful for all the memories. I’m thankful for all the blessings they’ve poured into my life. They’re not my blood-sisters, but they are family. They are my sisters.
Thank You, God, for all these things. I am a blessed young woman. Happy Thanksgiving!
